Sanford Tires of Leading State
September 2, 2008 – 11:09 am
While Sanford may not be tired of politics, today’s State story makes it clear that he’s tired of being a politician.
Sanford indicated he looked forward to continue fighting for the same issues he has pursued as governor: land conservation, lower taxes and limiting government spending.
In some ways, he said, he might be more effective as […]
Sanford Gets Convention Time Monday
August 29, 2008 – 3:46 pm
By default:
Gov. Mark Sanford will speak at the Republican National Convention Monday, filling in for Texas Gov. Rick Perry who will be watching the approach of Tropical Storm Gustav.
I’ll take odds he’s figured out a difference between McCain and Bush on economic policies.
Minority Reports: Melting Pot Served in 2042, S.C. Leads in Hispanic Growth
August 14, 2008 – 11:51 am
Two reports out today take a look at the changing face of our faces.
By 2050, whites will make up 46 percent of the population, blacks will make up 15 percent and Hispanics will comprise 30 percent, according to projections. Asians will account for 9 percent.
Meanwhile:
South Carolina continues to have the country’s fastest-growing Latino populations, […]
NY Columnist: Why Can’t NY Government Be More Like South Carolina
August 13, 2008 – 1:29 pm
I know a number of South Carolina pundits who will get a kick out of Diana Furchtgott-Roth’s New York Sun column. Before bashing Barack Obama and the Democratic Party for being pro-employee, Furchtgott-Roth tells New York that it has a thing or two to learn from South Carolina.
A few winners:
Because its government spends and taxes […]
Hey, It’s a News Wrap: Weather Worry Worts, South Carolina Is So Broke, New Clue Weapons, Kenny Chesney Showers Athletes
August 12, 2008 – 3:02 pm
• Post and Courier is covering its bases: “Rain, tornadoes, hurricane might be on their way.” For those not willing to click away: Rain tonight, tornado tomorrow, hurricane? Well there’s a blob in the mid-Atlantic that could be in the Bahamas by the weekend.
• South Carolina is so … screwed: The state is calling for […]
Minneapolis Nudie Bar Expects GOP Surge
August 7, 2008 – 9:43 am
The conservatives may want to close up strip joints in South Carolina by midnight, but at least one Minneapolis gentleman’s club has applied for a $2,500 late-night permit with expectations that attendees of the Republican National Convention will be ready to burn some ones.
“We’re very much looking forward to the RNC,” says Julian Royal of […]
State Leaders Unveil New Layer of Innovative Bureaucracy
July 29, 2008 – 1:36 pm
A heavily touted announcement (particularly heavy considering we’re not two months from the last legislative session and a whole ‘nother election away from the next) today from S.C. Statehouse leaders was expected to provide the state’s plans for recovering from one of the nation’s highest unemployment rates.
I’m not sure how others will receive the event, […]
Experts: Nothing to Drill Off S.C. Coast
July 21, 2008 – 11:58 am
Is there anyone left who knows what they’re talking about who still believes that drilling off the South Carolina coast is a good idea?
Experts interviewed recently by the Associated Press says that, much like the state’s gay tourism market, these pumps are dry.
“We just don’t have the great kind of geology and the shallow enough […]
Sanford Veepstakes: Um, Uh Out of the Running
July 14, 2008 – 11:58 am
Sanford said over the weekend that he wasn’t not being vetted by the McCain campaign as a running mat, and then he proved it by mumbling through an answer about McCain’s economic policy.
BLITZER: Are there any significant economic differences between what the Bush administration has put forward over these many years as opposed to now […]
Beaufort Sheriff Predicts Immigration Enforcement Complaints
July 10, 2008 – 9:40 am
The Beaufort County Sheriffs Office has four deputies in training for immigration enforcement. When they get done, they’ll be able to better assist the local police in handling and processing illegal immigration cases.
Sheriff P.J. Tanner warned business owners in Beaufort yesterday that they should be careful what they wish for.
“If we go around Beaufort County […]
