The State released interviews today between investigators and former state Treasurer Thomas Ravenel, who was convicted earlier this year for handing out cocaine to his friends. In the interviews, Ravenel talks about a lot of people that he’s done coke with and about passing it around “like a football,” but names were blacked out by […]
Prosecution Hints at More Charleston Cocaine Arrests
March 17, 2008 – 10:45 am
Kudos to the P&C news team for its story over the weekend noting the drug busts aren’t over in the Ravenel case.
On several occasions prosecutors tried to stop any testimony given in front of U.S. District Judge Joseph Anderson Jr. from veering into the direction of the coke probe.
An “ongoing investigation” was said several times, […]

Thomas Ravenel was sentenced to 10 months in federal prison for handing out cocaine to his friends.

Two court updates today.
First, Thomas Ravenel, charged with distributing cocaine for free to his friends, will be sentenced on Jan. 28. His lawyers are asking for no jail time, it’s unclear whether he’s provided the kind of information to investigators needed to make that reasonable. Ravenel is likly facing up to four years in jail.
Second, […]

Lawyers: Ravenel Too Pretty, Rich, Connected For Prison
December 11, 2007 – 10:28 am
The P&C reports today that Thomas Ravenel’s lawyers are asking for probation for the former state treasurer. Ravenel was busted for distributing cocaine to his friends back in June and has been assisting the state, presumably in tracking down bigger fish in the Charleston area.
The lawyers paint Ravenel as the modern day Robin Hood of […]
Ravenel Pleads Guilty, Not An Addict
September 6, 2007 – 1:58 pm
As expected, Thomas Ravenel pled guilty to cocaine charges today, but birthed a new piece to this puzzle with the announcement that he had not sought treatment for drugs but for something else.
Ravenel also said he is not being treated for drug abuse, but for some problems that stemmed from his childhood that formulated what […]
Third Man Out … There Somewhere
September 5, 2007 – 2:15 pm
The Post and Courier is reporting that Pasquale Pellicoro, the third wheel of the Ravenel drug bust, failed to appear in court today for his arraignment.
Not sure what Pellicoro was thinking, but he might have done the math:
Alleged drug dealer has likely gotten a deal
+ Thomas Ravenel set to agree to a deal
x The cops […]
Key Point in Ravenel Plea: There’s More Names To Come
August 31, 2007 – 10:02 pm
In this week’s issue, we noted that at least one more name is likely in the Ravenel cocaine indictment.
News of Ravenel’s planned guilty plea next week provides more clues that the final curtain has not dropped on this story.
If Ravenel’s cooperation in the case leads to the investigation or prosecution of another person, prosecutors also […]
Ravenel Story: Frankly, Charleston Doesn’t Give a Damn
August 23, 2007 – 11:02 am
These three covers from South Carolina’s largest newspapers are presented below while recognizing:
1. News placement is subjective.
2. While it might not be as exciting, it certainly is interesting that we have our own Abramoff scandal in Mount Pleasant.
If you’re looking for the Ravenel news in the Post and Courier, there’s a brief mention in the […]
